Mamacita Knows Best.

I have heard comments from my mom over the years that something changes when you have a child of your own.  That a mother's first priority is her child and that will never change no matter how old her children are.  I am 29 years old and to this day my mom will drop everything she is doing to make sure I am doing okay if she feels I may not be.

One of my favorite memories I have with mom is when "Field Day" would occur during my fourth, fifth and sixth grade years of elementary school.  To give you a little bit of an idea of what Liberty Elementary School Field Day was all about...It was a day of track events held at Sunrise Middle School (located directly next door to Liberty). This day was mandatory and it was used to find the best of the best in track events so that the winners of each event could continue on to the Jesse Owen Track Meet. What I find funny, is that this day was supposed to be a fun relaxing day of exercise with friends; or so that is how they desribed it to us all.  Yet, that would never be the case.  Field Day was taken extremely serious by both the parents AND the kids. There were so many athletes already at those ages and you better believe my Mamacita was just as competitive as we were on the actual day (best quality to have obtained from my mom). Every night before the big day, my mom would take me to Sports Authority to get the important "winning" essentials.  A cute running outfit (duh) and a pack of Gatorade Quench Gum for my 1200 meter race.   In case you were wondering, the gum did not quench my thirst. It lost its flavor after 5 chews but nevertheless it was mental and my mentality said it worked so we would get it.  My pre-race day dinner was "Spaghettios" and then my mom would braid my hair in 2 braids (we agreed it made me run faster).  The last thing I would do before I went to bed the night before the big day was put my good luck horse earrings on (I thought it helped me run fast like horses).  On the actual day of the race I always got nervous but having the one person there that I wanted to impress the most screaming
"Go AndreaGo!!!" made me run even faster.

Me running the 1200 meter at Jesse Owens. Notice the super cool white scrunchy socks haha.
                                                                      I won though!

I returned from Oklahoma this week where I was able to spend a much needed couple of days with Matt, Mom and Cassidy.  We made so many new memories that I will forever cherish.  From my first time doing Hot Yoga, to our breakfast date to laying out by the pool listening to music just my mom and I. Sometimes I can't help but look at my mom and think to myself how lucky I am that God chose this woman to be my Mom.  Leaving my family is never easy for me and no matter how hard I try I always tear up. Thankfully they know better resulting in quick hugs and kisses and very little talking. I can only hope when it is time for me to be a mother I will be the kind of mom My Mom  has always been to me.
